I’m an internationally known travel writer, entertaining presenter, and member of the International Travel Writer’s Alliance.
I’ve sailed aboard Sitmar Cruises (decades ago before it was purchased by Princess), Crystal, Silversea, and Princess. Recently, I’ve made these travel-writing presentations as a guest lecturer –– and all are infused with my dry humor:
June 2, 2024, 3:00-4:00 pm, ScubaShow.com, Los Angeles, CA
Topic title: “The 12 Most Common Diving Injuries – And How to Avoid Them”.
This is the world’s largest scuba-related travel convention, attracting 10,000 consumers annually. My presentation provided an overview of the most common injuries and problems that you can encounter, regardless of how experienced you are – and how to prevent them from happening. Topics included sunburn (the most prevalent yet most preventable skin cancer), bruises, lower back pain, sore ribs, TMJ, barotrauma, mask squeeze, broken blood vessels in your eyes, nitrogen narcosis, and “The Bends”.

Gil Zeimer’s Guest Lecturer Bio.
I’ve been a creative soul for nearly 50 years, first as a highly skilled advertising writer, then as a highly prolific travel writer. I’ve become an in-demand Special Interest speaker after publishing more than 2,800 blogs, articles, newsletters, and websites, including over 1,600 about travel, food, wine, and shopping, including more than 225 blogs as a “Scuba Storyteller” for the past 30 years.
My stories have appeared in California Diving News, Scuba Times, DAN Alert Diver, Adventure Journal, Sport Diver Interactive, Dive Travel, Dive Pacific, Asian Diver, Scuba Diver Life, Local Getaways, Red Sail Sports, Sun Divers Roatan, Scuba Radio, the San Francisco Chronicle, the L.A. Times, the Marin Independent Journal, and Adweek Magazine.
I started public speaking in high school, frequently addressing the entire student body of 3,000, which cured any possible stage fright I would ever have.
In my career as an advertising copywriter and Creative Director for over 45 years, I made hundreds of presentations for ads, radio and TV scripts to clients, even singing jingles and acting out scenes from commercials. Those clients included Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, VISA, Levi Strauss, Intuit, Oracle, PwC, Safeway, Del Monte, Porsche, and dozens more.
I was also a member of Business Network International (BNI) for more than 14 years where I spoke weekly to about 50 people and presented at bi-annual conventions to over 400 members. This organization is similar to Toastmasters.
My wife, Ellen Young, and I live in San Rafael.
