I did the copywriting for this TV commercial decades ago when I worked for an ad agency in Dallas and their client was Libby’s.
Since Libby’s had an estimated 80% share of the pumpkin pie market, it wanted to expand its selling season. So the agency created this TV spot and accompanying print ads promoting its “Great Pumpkin Cookie Recipe” on the label in October.
We were able to buy the rights to “The Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and The Crypt-Kickers for $10K and ran this commercial in a test market. Though it tested well and increased incremental sales in October, Libby’s went back to focusing only on their Famous Pumpkin Pie recipe.
